How to Plan the Perfect Cayman Wedding

Destination Caribbean weddings are very popular these days, and one of the most popular is a Cayman Wedding. Grand Cayman is a favourite stop on the cruise ships itinerary, and the easiest place to be married. We have many beautiful beaches, and other great wedding locations. When you have a Cayman wedding as part of your cruise vacation you can combine the wedding and honeymoon. You can come as just a couple, or you can bring a group of your family and friends. When you choose a Cayman wedding with Simply Weddings - Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners you can be sure of personal service, elegance, and attendance to detail.

Some couples choose to bring more elegant attire, in which case there is no charge to use our Bridal Room when you choose our all-inclusive Cayman Cruise Wedding package. For a few dollars more you can add chilled champagne served on the beach to even the simplest of our Cayman wedding packages.

I enjoy doing ceremonies which include children, and try to find ways to include them.

If you're a stayover visitor you have a myriad of locations to chose from, including this Cayman Castle location on the eastern end of the island.

My Secret Cove, is of course my favourite wedding location. However, please note this spot is not appropriate for large groups.

Sunset weddings are very popular, but this wedding on Seven Mile Beach was at sunrise.

The beaches at the far end of Seven Mile Beach, Blue Water Beach, Bus Stop 29 and Mary Molly Hydes beach are equally suitable for your perfect Cayman Wedding.

Of course you can choose to be married at one of our popular restaurants like the Wharf, which has its own private beach seen here.

This type of rock is called iron-shore, and the texture provided by the contrast of white sand and dark rocks makes these small coves a popular choice of couples for their Cayman wedding. This is another shot of My Secret Cove, of course.
Couples can also choose to be married on a boat. This wedding was aboard "Oh Boy!" near to world-famous Stingray City.

The popular Kaibo restaurant on the north side of Grand Cayman is a popular location for both Cayman weddings and wedding receptions.

This group chose a picnic under the sea-grape trees at Blue Water beach, after their Cayman Cruise Wedding.

Whatever you choose for your Cayman Wedding, your starting point should be Simply Weddings - Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners. We make it simple for you to have an unforgettable Cayman Wedding. Visit our website to see our Cayman wedding packages, and other services offered. Call Joy or Peggy at (345) 9499933

Stormy Weather Behind This Couple's Cayman Beach Wedding

This morning's ceremony for a resident couple was scheduled for Smith's Cove, but when we arrived we found that the whole area had been scheduled for road works, paving etc. which began today. It was just as well, since it was a rainy morning and Smith's Cove has no shelter.

We all moved down the road a bit to Dart's Park, which has lots of shelter. You will see the scene which greeted us below, the waves were very high, and it was quite windy.

We stood under one of the cabanas for the ceremony

Saying their wedding vows

I always say to the Groom, "You may kiss your wife!"

After signing the Register, the couple are presented with their Certified Copy of the Marriage Register

Dart's Park is another popular spot for residents and locals to be married. If you have been residing on the island for 15 days you must be married under Banns of Marriage. Banns of Marriage state all the details of your marriage application, and must be posted for 7 clear days so that anyone wishing to object to your marriage may do so. In reality, there are seldom objectors. In the wedding ceremony there is also a section which gives objectors one last chance to speak out. This is one of the questions required by the Cayman Islands Marriage Law (2009 revised).

Should you wish to know more about the legal requirements for being married in the Cayman islands, please call the Simply Weddings - Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners office which is located at 306 South Church St, George Town, Grand Cayman. Call (345)9499933.

Cruise and stay-over visitors must be married by Special Marriage License. Your SML is normally applied for by your Marriage Officer, who certifies that all the details are correct and you are free in law to marry.

Love Blossoms for Simple Wedding at Caymana Bay, Grand Cayman

This young, visiting couple were supposed to be married at Governor's Beach, but a squall rolled in and we had to find a back-up plan. They suggested Camana Bay, Grand Cayman's new planned community which has become the focal point for social and community events.

The ceremony was on the steps with the fountain area as a backdrop.

It began to drizzle, so we moved into the garden area to find a sheltering umbrella and a dry spot.

The groom's mother was a witness. Her name is also "Joy".

We even did a "we did it! " shot

Simple, Barefoot Beach Wedding on Grand Cayman

This is Mary Molly Hydes Beach at 10 a.m. this morning

Everybody took their shoes off, even the Marriage Officer

This is the quietest part of Seven Mile Beach. I have noticed that this entire section of the beach has been cleaned up and de-bushed, making it a real option for weddings.

The groom is a Marine Enforcement Officer, so a beach wedding fit the bill for his bride and himself.

The brown bits in the sand are dried sea-weed. I asked them if they wanted to move further down where the sand was clear, but they weren't fussed.

Warm Breezes, Palm Trees and Quiet Beach for 10th Year Vow Renewal in Cayman

It's been a long, hard winter in Minnesota, and this couple, celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary headed south on a cruise of the western Caribbean, including the Cayman Islands. They took advantage of their day in Grand Cayman to have a wedding vow renewal ceremony at My Secret Cove.

It was quite early in the morning, and we had the Cove to ourselves. It gave them the opportunity to have lots of pictures in different parts of this most popular beach for a Cayman cruise wedding.

What's a Caribbean beach without a palm tree or two?

Our Cayman Vow Renewal package includes this decorative certificate, and a signing table with linens and shells.

Our standard vow renewal package includes a bottle of champagne served on the beach.

My Secret Cove offers so many opportunities for great photographs like this one.

"For as long as we both shall live".

Your vow renewal ceremony should be as special as your love. We specialise in simple, elegant, personalised ceremonies which reflect who you are as a couple. This couple chose to use one of the "Hands" ceremonies, and added their son's name.

This Iguana picture is dedicated to this couple's little boy.

Some couples choose to duplicate their wedding flowers, in a simpler version. This couple chose a more tropical bouquet which included lilies, anthuriums, buttons, mango calla lilies and roses. Ask us about your own special order flowers.

Couples chose wedding vow renewals for many reasons. It is not always to celebrate a big anniversary, but can be a way of recommitting yourselves after surmounting a challenge to your relationship, or to add sometime even more special to a second honeymoon or cruise vacation.

Call us at Simply Weddings-Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners to help you enjoy a special wedding vow renewal in Grand Cayman. Cruise vow renewals include complimentary transportation to the ceremony location and back to the harbour for up to 6 persons. Phone Joy or Peggy today at (345) 9499933 or email mywedding@candw.ky

Add an affordable photo package like this one, which includes a CD with all pictures, and an album with 36 prints mailed to you within a few days of your ceremony. These photos by Mari Abe of Island Photo.

It's Simple to Arrange a Cayman Wedding Vow Renewal

It's no secret that I like to officiate wedding vow renewals. I especially like to have wedding renewals with children and present. I think that showing your children and grand-children how much your marriage means to you is a way of leading by example, and reinforces the importance of marriage as an institution.

Every year I officiate several dozen wedding vow renewal ceremonies, from the simple to the elaborate, for both stay-over visitors and cruise visitors.

Vow renewal at My Secret Cove at sunset

This couple from Minnesota had visited Cayman before, and had very happy memories of our island, so they chose to celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary with their daughter present.

I give my couple a signed and witnessed decorative certificate which records the place, date and anniversary they are celebrating. Since there are no rules about who can witness this is often an opportunity for even very young children to record their names as being present at the ceremony.

This was a spectacular sunset. The couple followed up their ceremony with dinner at Grand Old House, one of Cayman's best known restaurants which is just next door.

Our Cayman wedding vow renewal package includes a bottle of champagne for toasting. Call Joy or Peggy today (345) 9499933 to make your wedding renewal ceremony part of your Cayman Islands vacation. Simply Weddings - Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners will arrange for a professional photographer to capture your special celebration. These photos by Mari Abe of Island Photo.

How to Hire a Wedding Officiant for your Cayman Wedding

The person who officiates at your Cayman Wedding is called a "Marriage Officer". A Marriage Officer will be either a Civil Registrar of Marriages or a member of the clergy. In Cayman there are 90 ministers of religion licensed to perform weddings for their congregations. A few of them also perform weddings for visitors.

There are two Civil Registrars of Marriage on Grand Cayman. These are Mrs Francine Jackson of Cayman Weddings, who was the first Civil Registrar appointed and who has performed almost 3000 wedding ceremonies; and Mrs Joy Basdeo (pictured above) of Simply Weddings who officiated at more than 500 weddings.

(These two ladies are the wife and daughter of one of Cayman's best known and loved Marriage Officers, Mr Vernon Jackson, OBE, JP who has been conducting weddings in the Cayman Islands for 26 years.)

Your Civil Ceremony

A non-religious or civil ceremony can be just as meaningful as a religious one. Once you have discussed it with your Civil Registrar you can write your own vows and/or incorporate readings, music and themes into the ceremony. You can also incorporate a Unity Sand Ceremony and create your own Memory Vase as a lasting memento of your special day.

Your Religious Ceremony

If a couple practices the same religion and are members of a church, then you can request a minister of religion from that church. We have arranged Cayman weddings for members of the Lutheran Church, the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), Jehovah's Witnesses as well as other denominations. Special arrangements can be made for Roman Catholic weddings if you have had 6 months of pre-marital counseling with your own parish priest.

We have several male associates who are Reverends and who can perform your religious ceremony if this is your preference.

Your Interfaith Marriage

We often write special ceremonies for our interfaith couples. Last week I performed a ceremony where the Groom was Hindu, and I wrote their wedding vows based on the Seven Blessings of a Hindu Marriage ceremony. I have often used the Apache Wedding Blessing and the Cherokee Wedding Blessing, as well as the rituals from a Jewish Wedding ceremony.

The Role of Your Cayman Wedding officiant

All Marriage Officers in the Cayman Islands are governed by the Cayman Islands Marriage Law (2009 revised) This law dictates how legal marriages in the Cayman Islands must be conducted.
Same sex marriages are not legal in the Cayman Islands.

It is of paramount importance that your Civil Registrar of Marriages/Marriage Officer send you the Registered Marriage Certificate (RMC) following the wedding ceremony. This is your legal marriage document. You should NOT have to wait more than a week or two to receive this if you are a visitor. If you are a resident you can obtain it on the second working day after your wedding.

It is your wedding officiant's responsibility to scrutinise your documents (passports, divorce decrees if applicable) and determine if you are free in law to marry. The wedding officiant then applies for your Special Marriage Licence (if you are a visitor) or publishes your Banns of Marriage (if you are a resident).

The law requires certain questions to be asked during the ceremony. This is why you cannot be married in Cayman by just signing the appropriate papers. You must have a formal marriage ceremony no matter how brief.

The Cost of Your Cayman Wedding Officiant

Your Civil Registrar of Marriages/Marriage Officer, is a professional which certain legal responsibilities and legal sanctions if these responsibilities are ignored. Since most Marriage Officers work with wedding planning firms or hotels, their fees are most often incorporated into the total cost of your wedding. At Simply Weddings, the cost of the Marriage Officer is always included in our Cayman wedding packages.

Sneak Preview : International Favour to Cayman Wedding Today

This young couple who work on one of the Royal Caribbean cruise -ships were a delight to work with. Since they visit Cayman frequently when their ship is in port they had a good idea of what they wanted for their custom Cayman Wedding.

The bride and some of the wedding party were picked up from the cruise landing by limousine.

While limousine service does not come standard with our packages, this can be arranged.

The groom is from the UK and the bride from Zimbabwe.

They were fortunate to have both sets of parents ( from the UK and New Zealand) as well as the groom's aunt, present, and able to take part in the wedding. Here we are next to the water at Governor's beach.

A large group of friends and co-workers from the cruise ship formed an aisle for the bride and her father to walk down, with much clapping and and shouts of "Good Luck". We do quite a few weddings every year for couples who work, and often meet each other on one of the cruise ships which bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to our islands every year.

As the groom is Hindu, and the bride Christian, I wrote a special ceremony for them. In this ceremony their wedding vows are based on the Seven Blessings in a Hindu marriage ceremony.

To honour the bride's Christian heritage, one of the readings chosen was from 1 Corinthians, the new English version ..."Love is patient, Love is kind etc."

After the ceremony, all the guests enjoyed champagne on the beach and then it was off to a local restaurant, Casanova's for the wedding reception and lunch.

Since I expect to get official photos at a later date, I will post more details at that point.

Ceremony by Joy, arrangements by Peggy Moorhead for Simply Weddings, custom floral arrangements supplied by Trisha's Roses, toasting champagne "Simply Weddings Bubbly" our own label from Cayman Corker.

These unofficial photos taken with my Olympus 370FE.

When you want to make it official, call the cruise wedding experts at Simply Weddings - Grand Cayman Wedding Celebrants and Planners. Call Joy or Peggy at (345) 9499933.
